Town Hall: Medicare and Medicaid and Our Failing Healthcare System

There have been major disruptions and access to Medicare and Medicaid in our region during 2023. Why has this happened? What can we do to stabilize and improve our healthcare system?
Speaker: Doug Boysen, President and CEO of Samaritan Health Services (SHS) since 2018. Mr. Boysen will report on the many challenges thathospitals face and how we can protect our community hospitals.
Speaker: Angel Harris, MSN, RN, adjunct nursing faculty at Bushnell University, past president of the Linn-Benton NAACP . She will address how our healthcare system affects all members of our community. She will offer solutions for discussion.
Speaker: Bruce Thomson MD, Retired Family Practice Doctor and former Benton County Public Health Officer. Bruce will address how our healthcare system is being threatened in Oregon affects providers. and will offer solutions for discussion.
Moderator: Karen Christianson, Retired attorney, Co-chair of the MVHCA Legislative Committee, member of the Health Care for All Oregon Legislative Committee, past President of MVHCA.

Topic: Basic Health Plan: Speaker Keith Tierney. Definitions of basic health care. Should we add behavioral and mental health? Public Employees’ Health Care Plan includes pharmacy and other services. We will need to address aging population, urban vs. rural needs, and a feedback mechanism.
